Mad Ballin' : Derrick Rose will break your heart (if you think he's the future at PG)

I don't know why the Chicago Bulls and its fans are putting so much of their heart at stake over Derrick Rose being the messiah of the Chicago Bulls. He's a good player, and can be a very good one, but I don't think he's the answer at the point guard position.

I've said it before, but Derrick Rose is a poor man's Steve Francis. (The Rose video doesn't work anymore. If you want to see him in action, check out this). He's not as creative, and can't shoot like him either. He accelerates and has the potential to play defense and fastbreak like Jason Kidd, but his future isn't as a starting point guard in my opinion. At least if you're trying to get the most out of his talents.

I see Rose best being utilized as a third guard who plays starter minutes. Although he can't shoot like Bobby Jackson, he could be a super sixth man and play backup point guard or off the ball as a second ball-handler (but not as a spot up shooter!). That way, a team can get the most out of his athletic and defensive talents and make up for what he can't do (i.e. shoot, pass).

I'm not saying Rose is selfish or not talented, but he's not a floor general. His NBA preseason debut against Dallas reinforced my opinion. His talents are better utilized in other ways. If you want a young talent who will dominate as a true floor general, get Ricky Rubio.

Otherwise, give Derrick Rose a break, would ya?

More NBA debuts!
1. Greg Oden
2. Rudy Fernandez

No, not at all - I'm hardly filled with dumbness.

Derrick Rose is still the slasher whose first instinct is to score.
